Daniel Barenboim

Music to Daniel is not just a compilation of notes placed beautifully in perfect harmony. It is to him, which I also believe, a state where a holistic union of heart, soul and music playing a sound of harmony, is achieved; when one can no longer separate music from musicianship or the brains from the heart.

Daniel feels he is very lucky to have good parents. His father taught him not just music but how to think. Right thinking is required in dealing with life. He is even able to compare the living society with a playing orchestra where everyone plays his music while simultaneously listening to others’ music. This is I guess what his message is that we need to respect to each other’s uniqueness while keeping our own unique character. This is the only way to attain social balance.
If he were here in the Philippines, he would probably address poverty issues. Maybe to be very poor can be likened to a very low note (lower than bass probably) and to be very rich is likened to a high pitched note (higher than soprano). Considering the condition in the Philippines where there are more than 70 million poor and only less than two percent rich, one could simply imagine a music having all lower notes than there are higher. Then I guess it is not good music at all because balance is absent.
